I had a Lexmark Z53 that I was replacing and unhappy with. I vowed to never buy another Lexmark. But when researching other all-in-one printer, scanner, copier, faxes I consistently found the Lexmark x7550 at the top! It had everything I needed and was a great value for the price. Other all-in-one printer, scanner, copier, faxes, claim to be "wireless" but really only have "wireless capability" and require an external wi-fi print server. This one has it all built-in!
Once I got it home, I was shocked how many cool features it has and that work without a problem! I can stand at the Lexmark, scan a document and wirelessly make it create a PDF on my laptop! When I return to the laptop, there is the PDF document!
I have Windows Vista and it has worked flawlessly.

Samsung SCX 4300 Multifunction laser printer( B/W ) Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this printer because I am a fan of laser printers and needed one for home (and school) use. It is a nice size and fits neatly on my desk.
However, I'm giving this product 3 stars for the following reasons:
1.) The exit for printed paper is poorly planned. There is a flimsy piece of plastic you can fold out for larger print jobs, but I'm waiting for the day it snaps off.
2.) Paper jam messages pop up frequently... often with no paper actually being jammed anywhere.
3.) The machine is so picky. If you don't have that front door closed just right, it won't print. The same goes for filling up that tray with paper.
4.) I just put in a new toner cartridge, and I had one heck of a time getting the printer to work. First it printed half-black pages. Then nothing printed on the pages at all. After rebooting the printer and computer a few times and pulling the toner in and out of the machine a handful of times too, I FINALLY got it to work.
5.) The toner cartridge is expensive, although I think it is coming down in price. Two months ago, I couldn't find one on the internet for less than $80. Now Amazon has them for $68 (or less at other vendors).
Overall, I don't 100% trust the printer. I would like to get 5 years out of it to get my money's worth, but I don't even know if it will last another year... and a paper jam error filled one at that.

Brother MFC-5440CN Network Inkjet Printer, Scanner, Copier, and Fax Review

(More customer reviews)This is an excellent printer/scanner/fax for the money. I had purchased this as a replacement to an extremely problematic HP 5110.
Install: Installation was extremely easy. Just follow the directions and everything works within about 30 minutes. I really can't stress enough how easy it was to setup this printer. Whether you set it up with a standard USB connection or ethernet/network, the software does everything for you and the software install only takes around 5 minutes.
Software: The software is really simple and easy to use. The downside to this is that it is somewhat too simple. For advanced users that want more options and customizability, they wont find it here. Also, having the preset scan buttons is a little annoying if you like to change your scan options a lot.
I should also note that you can scan/copy things using either your computer or the buttons on the unit. This is very very smooth and allows you do be able to scan things without having to navigate to the ControlCenter on your PC. If you set up the printer on the network it will also even allow you to pick which PC to send the files to.
Printer: Print quality is right on for this price range. This is not a photo printer, but nevertheless printing onto photo quality paper isnt bad. But at the prices you can get digital photos developed at Walmart or Target nowadays, it doesnt really matter.
Scanner: Scan quality is great, scans up to 6000x1200 DPI. Even 300x300 DPI looks great.
Fax: Unfortunately, I cannot comment on this as I have no reason to fax anyone. But if the scan/print quality is any indication, this would work seamlessly as well.
Ink: This printer uses individual C/M/Y/K cartridges. So when one color runs out, you only have to replace that color. The size of the ink cartridges is pretty big, too, so they last longer. The downside to this is that the print head is not replaceable since they are not part of the print cartridges. So you pretty much have to replace the entire printer when it goes out.
Networking: Another GREAT reason to buy this product is that is comes with built-in networking. This is completely unheard of in other brands in this price range and greatly adds to the value of this printer. You can set it up for wireless use or wire it directly to your router/hub. You can also scan images in and send it to any computer on your network ... directly from the printer!
Price: This is in the $ 100-150 price range, which is more or less the low range for AIO printers. In this range, you pretty much have to choose from Lexmark, HP and Brother. Lexmark printers in this range are really cheap and their ink cartridges are overpriced. HP is very problematic, have smaller ink cartridges and are also overpriced. Overall, Brother is the best buy.
Overall: I'm in love. Not only is this the best printer for the money, but this is a GREAT printer/scanner PERIOD. After this experience all my future printers will be Brother brand. I will never buy Lexmark/HP/etc ever again.

Overall, I must say I do recommend this HP Deskjet to anyone in need of a printer. It's pretty reliable most of the time (90% of the time it prints and copies things, without fail. I've tried scanning 2-3 times, with no luck. So I can't comment too much on that!).
There are better printers out there for sure. But there are many more printers that don't perform this well.
Recommended.

Lexmark X83 Scanner-Printer-Copier Review

(More customer reviews)After comparing the Lexmark X83 at a CompUSA with the comparable HP, we chose to purchase it. In short, we have been very pleased with it. For reference, our previous printer was a Lexmark 3200 which we also bought for its value.
The print quality is fantastic, with a stunning high-end of 2400x1200. On Kodak photo-paper, the images are amazingly vibrant and life-like.
B/W printing is very fast and crisp at the default we set (600x600 on plain paper). It looks at least as good as the office HP laser printer, although that might have to do with the better paper we use at home. I prefer the Lexmark technology to the HP REt; it seems to make small letters more readable.
Others have written about the X83 not being networkable, and that is my biggest gripe. I "solved" this by connecting the printer to my USB hub on the desk top, instead of the USB port in the back of the computer. I unplug the printer from the hub and attach it to my laptop when I want to print from the laptop(rare; I usually print my work at the office). The USB connection makes it very easy to do this.
The USB connection has also proven useful for scanning. Transfer between the printer and the computer is much faster than the old printer connection (my old scanner used a bi-directional parallel port).
Scanning is easy. You can use the included little applet, which is simple. I tried OCR to convert an encyclopedia page to text, and it was pretty accurate. OCR has come a long way since the last time I tried it.
Copying is done via the front panel. One reason I chose the Lexmark was that the copy bed was like a copier. I believe the comparable HP used a page feed, like a fax, which makes copying book pages impossible; the HP flat bed was (...) more expensive. The cover also comes off, which is handy for those really fat books I have.
So, here's a summary:

Hewlett Packard PSC 750XI Multifunction Review

(More customer reviews)I did a LOT of research before settling in on this product by HP. Some of the crucial things I looked at were macintosh OS X support, support reliability, color print quality, black text quality, scan speed, size, and how obvious the controls are.The HP came out great in almost all of these catagories-- but I have to admit, the things that really got me was the color print quality. I stuck a piece of photo paper in the store demo and slapped down a vivid color print I took in Wales, and I was blown away-- I thought it looked great, and was very true to the original image. And that was the COLOR COPY option-- in other words, no software interface or scanning.
Since I've had it a couple months now, I have to say the thing I use it for the most and that has been consistantly the most valuable is the black copy option. I took 5 minutes to get used to the top control panel and now I regularly run off 5-10 copies of important things for my business, lectures, etc.. Any *major* copy job I still take to Kinkos, but it's so convenient to get a couple more copies when you just need one or two-- which for me, is a lot.
The scanning software works very well, generally. It's not as great as I would like, but it does do scans quickly and efficiently to Photoshop, Mail in OS X, or Preview. Just the fact that HP put some real EFFORT into OS X support makes me on their side. I'd like to be able to do better work with the images and cropping before scanning, though.
The OCR only seems to work using OS 9 software.[...]
The creative copying option-- right there on the top of the machine-- is a brilliant design. With a few selections I can have a color copy of a photo automatically fit to the page I'm printing to. That's pretty cool.
All in all, I'm really pretty happy with my purchase. The software went buggy once and did some weird things, but I uninstalled and reinstalled it and it seems to be fine. If you can find a good price on the black refills it seems to really work as a cost-efficient option as well. I've seen reviews that seem to dog the PSC series as not being up to the OfficeJet standards-- maybe, but they work great as a home business/cost-efficient option and really pack in a lot of the whallop of the OfficeJet. I wish there was a direct FAX option-- surely that's only another $15 at this point? But still, I haven't needed to use the FAX option yet, and I use everything else every day.

Canon MultiPass F80 Multifunction Review

(More customer reviews)I wanted a quality all-in-one solution for my home office and personal use, and after some research my options boiled down to 2 models: the HP Officejet D145 and the Canon Multipass F80. Since I couldn't find a store anywhere that had BOTH of these models running for comparison, I bought ONE OF EACH and brought them home for my own evaluation.
I bought the HP D145 first. The PROS: Fast, great quality prints and copies even on plain paper in "Normal" mode. Makes double-sided copies. Multi-format card reader. Good software and tutorials. Intuitive and easy to use frontpanel buttons.
CONS: Printed manual only covers a few of the options, and help files on the CD cover the rest. Won't print borderless photos. If you need to copy something that has printing near the edges of the original, you need to reduce a few percentage points first or you'll end-up with cropped copies.
I printed a few photos from my PC and also from my Nikon Coolpix 995 3.3 megapixel digital camera using the card reader. If the photos are well lit and of high quality, they will print nicely on Photo quality paper. The only catch is the 1/4" border around the edge. I haven't tried printing on 4x6" photo paper yet, but my guess is that the border will print there as well. Some may not see this as a big deal, but if you want to print copies of scanned photos or digital camera images, they won't look the same as other photographs in your album if they have borders around them. An option is to make 4x6" prints on full sheets of paper, but then you have to cut them by hand. This is also a waste of expensive paper.
Having been impressed by the HP D145, but underwhelmed by it's inability to create borderless photo prints, I decided to see what the Canon F80 had to offer. For more than a hundred dollars less, it seemed logical to compare the two to see what HP was providing for the extra money. I also thought there was a chance that the quality of photo prints from the HP weren't that great, but I had nothing to compare to.
I bought a Canon Multipass F80, and the first thing I noticed was it's smaller size and compact footprint. It didn't come with a USB cable, and the only way to connect to your computer was with... a USB CABLE! It seems a little crazy to me that they don't include a cable that probably costs them pennies. Luckily, I had a extra one available. Having already experimented with the HP a couple of days earlier, I knew right off the bat what I wanted to know about this machine... so I tried to print a full page photo from the Cardreader. It wouldn't recognize the card at first, so after some digging throught the manual I discovered that the card must be formatted by the camera and NOT the PC. After I did this, and took a few new photos, the F80 was able to recognize the card (Compactflash only). I printed an index first, and compared to the HP D145 the photos were very small (stamp sized, compared the HP's ~1x2" index photos). The HP has this cool feature that let's you select the photo(s) and print sizes of images on the index page... then you scan the page and it automagically prints your selections. The Canon F80 doesn't do this, but I'm not sure how often I would even use this feature if I had it. There is nothing in the F80 manual that leads me to believe that you can increase the size of the thumbnails.
Canon F80 PROS: Higher quality photo prints. I ran a page of wallet sized prints from the cardreader on both machines, and a close inspection revealed slightly better quality on the Canon. In fact, it was impossible to tell that it wasn't an actual photo-lab print on the Canon. The HP looked good, but you could see a slight bit of dithering in some areas. Unless you use a magnifying glass on the photos hanging on your wall, you'll never notice the difference, but I wanted to point it out nonetheless. I also printed a photo using the borderless option, and WOW!! Again, a perfect photograph printed to the edge of the paper... just like you'd get from Kodak. Compared to the same full page print on the HP d145, the F80 print was larger (borderless) and brighter.
I haven't used either of these machines enough yet to know anything about the ink usage and long-term costs. The F80 uses 4 different colored ink tanks, and the HP D145 uses 1 black and 1 color tank... but the large color tank feeds ink to 4 separate color printheads. I'm not clear on how this works exactly, but I imagine that when you run out of Yellow ink, you'll need to replace the whole color cartridge. Only time will tell for sure, and I'll decide to take one of these back before I get that far.
COMPARISON:
HP D145 wins: quality of color copies and prints on normal paper, double-sided copies, index print quality, software.
CANON F80 wins: photo print quality, borderless prints, small footprint, lower cost.
UNKNOWN: speed and scanning ability (untested)
BOTTOM LINE: It depends on what's important to you. Compare the PROS and CONS and decide what's the best fit for your needs.

HP Pavilion dv7-4280us 17.3-Inch Entertainment Notebook PC (Silver) Review

(More customer reviews)I've been using this computer for about 3 weeks now, and am quite happy with its performance and battery life. It has switchable graphics and automatically (unless disabled) switches between built-in graphics when battery powered and dedicated graphics (ATI HD6550) when wall cube powered. I don't use this computer for gaming, but the HD6550 is a fairly respectable card. Battery life is listed at 7.75 hours. I was originally seeing around 6 hours in my typical usage scenario (see note re change below). I am also pleased with its thermal management. When working hard it gets warm - but not hot. Air exhaust is on the left, toward the back of the case, which is an acceptable location. Since it is billed as an "entertainment" laptop, there is a goodly amount of HP software installed for managing audio, video, photos, etc. I thought I would remove most of this, but found it to be relatively inoffensive and even useful at times. The hard drive is a generous 750 GB, so I wasn't too concerned about needing to free up space. I did disable the built-in backup management software in favor of adding a second 750 GB hard drive (this required purchasing an HP4000 series drive caddy and cable). I made the new drive (7200 RPM) the primary drive and relegated the slower 5400 RPM drive that came with the 4280 to backup. Having two hard drives did, of course, reduce battery life somewhat, but I still get around 5.5 hours - not bad at all. I can now do backups in-situ via partition imaging, plus daily backups to an external USB drive. Regarding that - the HP4280 has a powered eSATA port (combo USB and eSATA), which I use with a Seagate GoFlex Pro 750 GB drive with eSATA interface - and it is fast (GoFlex pro uses 7200 RPM drive which matches the one I swapped in and made my boot drive).
There is also a fingerprint scanner which can be used to log in (password entry is still available as alternative). You have to spend a few minutes registering your fingerprint (plus one alternative print) - but after that, you can log in by just swiping your finger over the scanner. It took some getting used to, but I now log in this way almost exclusively. One little trick I found - place your finger over the scanner, then hesitate for just a bit (about 1/4 to 1/2 second) before swiping and it will read much more reliably. At least that's the case for me - maybe I "trained" it that way. ;-)
My only real complaint is that the touch pad implementation is - well, just awful. As has been noted by others, it's almost impossible to position the cursor and click to select without moving the cursor off target, and if you touch the case near the touch pad - that moves the cursor. Really annoying. I added a Logitech M705 mouse which uses their tiny unifying receiver (I leave it plugged in all the time), and it works quite well, even with the receiver on the opposite side of the computer (that location works best for my carry case).
One last note - this beasty has a blue ray player and Beats audio - very nice combo for watching HD movies.
Overall, I am very happy with this computer. It lost one star for the schizoid touch pad and the slow hard drive.
Update 2011-05-10. Recently updated Synaptic Pointing Device drivers, and there were definite improvements in touch pad operation.

The problem is the color on photos is terrible. It either looks washed out, or laughably oversaturated depending on the settings used - but never close to what I see on the monitor. My older Epson is worse in every way compared to this printer, except it prints much more accurate looking photos. Sadly. 50% of what I use my printer for is photo prints, so this is going back. Not really advertised as a photo printer, so I should have known. Too bad because I love the printer otherwise.
Bottom line: General school, work, light office printer thumbs up. Photo and accurate color printing, thumbs down.

Canon MultiPass MP730 Multifunction Review

(More customer reviews)I have owned a Canon MultiPASS MP730 since mid-May, and can offer the following review.
I have used a number of multifunction machines, both inkjet and laser, and I think this is one of the best available on the market right now. I had been planning to purchase one for home use for over a year, but kept waiting to see if Canon was going to introduce an MFP based on the i850 printer engine (which the MP730 is). As soon as I saw this model on Canon's website in early May, I began checking online reseller sites daily. I purchased it from the first (reputable) vendor that showed available inventory.
I won't go into all the features of the unit, but here's what I really like about the MP730:
- Separate ink cartridges for each color - no wasted ink
- Extremely fast print speeds in all modes (draft, normal, best)
- Very reliable paper handling - no jams so far (I've printed about 500 pages to date)
- Very reliable document feeder paper handling - only one jam so far, and that was because the original was too slick and too small
- Extraordinary photo printing quality, particularly for a non-dedicated photo printer. Photos printed on the MP730 rival those output on our Canon S9000 (considered by many to be one of the best inkjet photo printers) and Canon S800 printers.
- It is a true multi-function unit. I have used other MFPs that don't multi-task at all (like the HP LaserJet 3200, which can't print or scan while it's receiving a fax). Our MP730 has had not had any trouble printing and faxing or printing and scanning at the same time.
What I don't like:
- Automatic document feeder (ADF) speed is not a fast as I'd like. It takes about 6-8 seconds to scan in a page of text at 200 dpi. That's not too bad, actually, but I've used a Brother MFP (MFC-8600) that took only 2-3 seconds to scan at that resolution. Unless you are going to routinely batch-scan hundreds of documents, this shouldn't be a problem.
- The size of the photos on the contact sheet are too small. This function is used to print out some or all of the photos on a memory card (CF, SmartMedia, Memory Stick, MMC, SD - it reads them all with the built-in card reader on the front). The thumbnail prints are about 5/8" x 3/4" (1.5cm x 2cm) and are fine for general identification, but not for critical comparisons. For some, this won't be a problem, especially if you like getting 70 contact prints on a letter-sized sheet of paper.
- No automatic duplexing accessory option. This is understandable, given the location of the paper tray, but it would still be a nice feature, and it is offered on the OJ7xxx series (the MP730's only real competition when comparing their feature sets). The print driver does allow for manual duplexing, however.
- The footprint is a little larger than I'd like, as its depth is almost 23", mainly due to the paper tray on the rear. But I consider that a small trade-off for the increased paper feed reliability.
Another reason for finally purchasing an MFP was because our old HP DeskJet 722C (five years old) has decided to stop printing yellow. We used it for all our general-purpose printing and use the Canon S9000 and S800 strictly for photo output (my wife has a small home studio photography business). An added bonus from the MP730 is its phenomenal photo quality (for a 4-color printer, most dedicated photo printers are 6-color). Although a trained eye could possibly tell the difference in the prints, I doubt any of my wife's clients could. That allows us to use the MP730 as a back-up photo printer in the event she has a large order or if we run out of ink (not likely, but the S800/S9000 and MP730 take different ink tanks). Of course, photo output is superior on Canon's own photo papers, but we have had great performance from all of our printers on Ilford Galerie Classic and Smooth (gloss and pearl finishes), as well as Red River Ultra/Polar satin and gloss.

(More customer reviews)This printer is horrific. I purchased it from the Dell website when buying a new tower for my desktop. The worst feature is that the ink cartidges last for about twenty pages. Print a couple of articles and a couple of map quest directions and you're done. The next worst is that the wireless feature doesn't work much of the time. One has to reboot both computer and printer to allow them to find one another. You won't receive an error message every time - often simply nothing will happen. Or you will receive an error message even though the indicator light shows the printer is connected to the network. To top it off, good luck finding cartridges unless you go to Staples or some other specialty store. Places like CVS only carry HP catridges. Literally, I wouldn't even give this printer to a impoverished friend in need of one.

Using the included Software disc - it didn't work with my Windows Vista Laptop. So off to the Lexmark web site for the Vista Drivers. The upgrade drivers work fine. Full operation on printing, copying, and scanning. Even has a voice prompt announcing start and stop printing actions. The all in one center icon is a joy to use. Very easy to command the printer from the laptop. Print quality is adequate but not on par with the multi-tank printers. But perfectly adequate for quick printouts. I got tired of transferring documents to a memory stick or E-Mailing to my upstairs printer, the X1240 is a nice inexpensive add on to my laptop. Ink is expensive $60 for the twin pack (bought printer for $48 with free shipping)

While this is true, the reviewer doesn't note the fact that the remote has to be attached to the slide projector itself. I was expecting a little more sophisication, such as when one uses a remote to change channels on a television.
Also, the projector does not come with a lens, nor is there a cover for the projector itself. If one considers buying this product, keep in mind that one will have to get various accessories, such as a lens, and a decent covering case, and perhaps a more sophisicated remote -- one that is not necessarily attached to the projector.

Lexmark Z82 Multifunction Machine Review

(More customer reviews)The Lexmark Z82 is a printer, scanner, copier. It is a good looking product with a flat-bed scanner/copier and basically what is a Z52 printer. It has parallel and USB connections and was very easy to set up after taking it out of the box. Lexmark does a thorough job at initial set up of setting printer allignment. The Z82 prints very well - both black text and color. The color graphics are vibrant and realistic. I haven't tried a photo yet, but the Z52 is known to print beautiful photos on photo paper, so I expect the Z82 to do likewise. You'll need a photo cartridge, however, as it ships only with black and standard color. It also ships with a parallel port cable, so if you intend to use a USB connection, you'll need one. Copying functions are good also, if a little slow, as are scanner functions. Some of the software leaves a little to be desired - the 'Samsung Smarthru 2' - which sets-up e-mail and faxing capability from scanning - seems a bit tedious and unnecessary, especially if you're an experienced 'scanner.' The only minor problem I've encountered is that after copying, if you try to print or scan immediately, you'll get errors or smudged printing. Waiting a few moments or rebooting solves that problem. All-in-all, this is a good value for an excellent color inkjet (its really a Z52) with added copy and scan functions for an additional $60. Worth it!

anywayz, the print quality is awesome! i could hardly distinguish the original when printing on photo paper. and yes, when printing at its highest resolution it does take about 3 min for a full page of photo.
text print is very close to laser quality, very sharp. alot faster than printing in photo.
copy function works perfectly. there are 2 buttons, one for black copy and one for color copy. both works good because the scanning and printing goes concurrently.
scanning is good as well.

Wolverine ESP 120 GB Portable Multimedia Storage Player Review

(More customer reviews)I spent a while trying to find a multimedia device that could read multiple types of flash memory cards (Compact flash cards, SD cards), read the raw files from my Canon EOS 5D camera and have at least 80 GB storage.
This device met all those requirements and also has a big vivid screen. In addition to the above, it is an mp3 player, video player and has an FM radio.
I have the 100 GB version that I purchased from costco for $ 350. I took this along on a long trip (3 weeks), along with a couple of spare batteries.
It performed wonderfully. I downloaded the pictures from my 2 GB compact flash cards at least 15 times. It stored all my RAW files without a hitch. It could also read the raw files generated from my camera and display it. The download speed was very fast.
The Canon EOS 5D generates large files at it highest resolution and fills up my 2 GB compact flash cards quickly. It is too impractical and expensive to carry too many compact flash cards. This device really helps to bridge this gap.
It also has a tetris game, music and video capability in it, to keep my kids happy during long drives.
Highly recommended for digital photographers and also for people looking for a verstile multi media device that can do more than the ipod.
