This is a teeny-tiny almost pocket sized portable photo scanner. It has no frills. What it does have is an SD card slot...and will scan directly to the card without requiring hookup to a computer. (The software it comes with...I haven't really looked at it. Why? I have two other scanners...one all-in-one for scanning requiring high resolution...and another for multi-sheet use...both who use high-end software or interface with the Adobe Suite. For a scanner I paid under $30 for...I'm not expecting anything from the software besides a shiny coaster.)
Is it the best scanner in the world? No...it's not. This is NOT for scanning photos that you want to enlarge or reprint...but it's a great gadget to take over to a relative's house who has a ton of family photos you've always "wanted a copy of" but know you're never gonna get if you rely on them to scan them and send them to you. Scan...toss on one of the online photo "cloud" websites...and the whole family can see you playing in the bathtub at age three.
And it's easy enough...that Grandma can use it...you know? I bought this to bring to my 67 year old Mom's house to scan the family photo collection. I had 40 years of snapshots scanned in a couple of hours. (And several SD cards.) Now I torment my cousins on FB with photos of their sixth grade Halloween costumes. So...THIS is the kind of scanner it is.
It comes with a nice feed cover if you're scanning old photos that have curled...which is probably going to be anything on 120mm film for most home photo collections. It does NOT do negatives. (Negative scanners require backlighting to do a good job. FYI.)
