HP PSC 1210 Multifunction Review

Okay, so this is HP's newest all-in-one.
As expected of these All-in-one's not all features are equally good, so I'll review each of them separately.
Printer: A+
This is real Photo-printer. I printed 3 4"x6" photos captured by my digital camera at 1600x1200 resolution, on the FREE sample Premium Plus Photo Glossy provided. Result? Absolute TOP notch. There's simply no way anyone can tell that the photos were not developed at a Kodak studio.
Copier: A-
You can use the copier without having to turn on your computer. I copied a color photo (of a face) in black and white mode, and it looked pretty decent. Document copy was excellent. Copying great photos (sunset) is not so good because of the scanner... see next item.
Scanner: B-
I tried scanning a stunning sunset photo taken from my SLR film camera. The result was disappointing. There are noticeable scan lines in the scanned image. It looked bad when "Set as desktop background". Didnt even try printing it. Text scanning was ok though...
Package: A-
Contents include: Printer, Power-cord, Free Glossy paper samples, good imaging software. All you need after getting your printer is a USB cable (why can't they bundle it??). I picked up a $7 USB2 6ft cable at local [store].
Overall Verdict: A
For the price, it beats HP's own photo printers hands down. (and they don't even copy/scan). So if you need a photo printer, with a decent copier and ok scanner, PSC1210 is the way to go. Not to mention that its the smallest All-in-one available. However, if you're looking to scan top-notch images to burn on a CD, invest in a standalone scanner. My friend has a epson perfection which scanned the sunset shot just fine.

Photosmart C309g Premium All-in-One Printer w/Duplex Printing/Wireless Review

Photosmart C309g Premium All-in-One Printer w/Duplex Printing/Wireless
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this 6 months ago off newegg. At $100 i thought it was a great deal. Now as I'm ready to throw it away, i don't think it was a fair amount for a paper weight.
Ink: It printed great the first 2 or so weeks. I printed off 4 pages of address labels. Then after not using it for maybe a month, I try to print and the quality is terrible. Ok, the ink is dried. So I use 'clean print head', and try printing out. Nothing works, I take the cartridges out and dabbing the bottom with a paper towel the ink comes out fine. After much trial and error I get it printing fine again. After 2 days it stops printing red, a few days after that, all ink barely prints. And estimated ink levels are empty. (ink still dabbs fine on paper towel)
It now only prints some red.
It also takes it's time to print especially inbetween pages and has to prep each time.
Paper: It got a paper jam one time and since then I have to help it take the paper because it says please insert paper into tray, whether there is 1 or 50 sheets.
Connectivity: It comes with a foot long ethernet cord, won't do much good. But I use wireless and haven't had a problem with it.
Touch screen: very neat and works great.
scanned 1 time and that worked fine. haven't tried to copy anything.
Thoughts: I'm buying a different brand, and maybe going for laser.

HP Officejet Pro L7680 Color All-in-One Printer Review

HP Officejet Pro L7680 Color All-in-One Printer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had the HP L7680 for slightly over three months. I've been a pretty heavy user, having printed (according to the self-test page) almost 4000 pages during that time. Unlike some of the others mentioned here, my unit has been completely reliable.
Print Quality - Printing is very sharp and closely approaches laser quality...it's certainly above the threshold for business correspondence and presentations. The color output is solid, with almost no visible banding. I have not used it to print many photos, but those that I have have been also acceptable, given the constraints of a four color ink system. If photography printing is your primary usage, you should buy a printer with more ink colors.
Ink consumption - Over the span of 4000 pages, I went through the initial set of ink cartridges and am now on the third black cartridge...the second cartridge was a standard capacity one, while the third is the XL version. It's still 2/3 full. A second set of color cartridges were also the standard capacity versions. They're still 3/4 full. When they go empty, they'll also be replaced with the XL versions. Most of my printing is obviously black with a minor amount of spot color.
Faxing - It works. Faxes seem to get there.
Copying - The internal memory is inadequate to allow more than 5-6 pages of a document to be scanned and stored for collated printing. This flaw was obviously anticipated by the printer's firmware designers...the page
that causes the memory to overflow is returned to the scanning input tray so it can be scanned in the next five page batch. Unfortunately this flaw requires manual intervention...you have to remove the five printed pages from the output tray, set them aside and then place them on top of the next batch out. This is an absolute pain...The leader of the copier design team should be required to make fifteen copies of Tolstoy's War and Peace as atonement.
Scanning - The HP software works, but is awkward. I have yet to discover where the defaults are set...and the preset ones aren't optimal for my office. I'd like to be able to set it to scan an 8x11.5 letter size by default, rather than have the software guess the paper size based upon the image. It's NEVER guessed correctly. And, after scanning something into Adobe Acrobat, I need to click on "cancel" three more times before the image is finally transferred...it's like a Japanese monster movie...The Software That Wouldn't Die. There's other annoyances. The bottom line, though, is that it works. It's just doesn't work nicely.
So...the copying and scanning issues dropped this printer from a strong five stars down to three. It prints great and if there was a socket where I could add in more memory, the copying problem would go away. But there isn't. And while the scanning stuff is just annoying, the copying problem is a real time-waster.
Update: Since I've had the printer for a year and a half, I thought I'd add in a quick update and note that it's still going strong. I've gone through 500cc of black ink, 50-60cc of cyan and yellow, and 36cc of magenta. There has been some drift in the alignment, resulting in some slight banding while printing, but I suspect that that could be calibrated out. The only major problem has been wear in the automatic page feed mechanism in the document feeder, which causes misfeeds while faxing or copying. Cleaning the rollers and pads helped, but they should be replaced. The purchase of a high speed scanner (Fujitsu ScanSnap S510 Sheet-fed Scanner) has pretty much eliminated my use of the automatic document feeder, otherwise this problem would be a serious hassle.
Update - 6/20/11 - The price of ink cartridges for this printer has climbed to insane heights. While it used to be fairly economical to use, it's now too expensive to keep. Although it bothers me to scrap something that's still printing beautifully, out it goes...

Although I received the idem(s) in a timely manner I felt deceived by the Photo attached to this product. The photo shows a 2 Pack Box of Polaroid film, so I expected 10 packs of the Polaroid 2 pack boxes. I still ended up saving money with the 10 single packs of Polaroid film but felt deceived by your use of the 2 Pack Box of Polaroid film in your picture. I hope that you correct this for the future.

After opening the box and finding no black ink cartridge AND no USB cable, I was already in a foul mood. Now that I have the black ink cartridge (#4), it's telling me that it's an "unsupported cartridge." Seemed like a good deal, but now I know why it was so cheap. Should have gone with an HP.

We bough our Lexmark x2500 printer primarily because it promised to be a good choice economically. We were mistaken.
The printer is an ink sink. When you put in a new ink cartridge, you are always required to print an "alignment" page. This page is supposed to make sure he printer is printing correctly, and it is not optional. HUGE waste of ink. We are required to have a color ink cartridge in the printer, even though we never use color. Also, our printer went through a glitch phase where ever time we turned our computer off, it thought the printer needed to be "realigned" and made us print a new sheet. Not happy about that.
In addition, the software that comes with he printer leaves much to be desired. The layout and primer boxes are cartoon-like. Ever time you do a print job, a box pops up, and if you're anywhere near low on your ink cartridge, it obnoxiously asks you if you want to order more ink "right away." It's an advertising gimmick, and I can't change my settings to take the thing away.
Scans well. Prints well. Hardware is great. Software is infinitely annoying.

The part of the page where it printed correctly, the PostScript printing was very good, as good as professional printers; and the printer is fast. Fax and copy also work well. Over the years, I have used numerous dot matrix, inkjet, mono laser and color laser printers - including Dell 5100cn and Brother MFC-9840CDW Color Laser Multifunction Center with Wireless Interface and Duplex and this is the best print quality I have seen. It even printed the custom A4 size notebook paper for Livescribe 4 GB Echo Smartpen which prints on very few PostScript laser color printers.
But everything else about this multifunction machine left a lot to be desired.
The brand new printer came with three defects: 1). The front access panel did not close in a new machine. Replacement front door sent by Minolta was worse, we had to hold it with a tape! 2). There were smudges on one side of the page. 3). Background printed a reticular sort of pattern. Adorama, from whom I purchased this has very limited hours, they do not answer calls after 1 PM on Friday until Monday morning.
The documentation that came this machine wass VERY POOR. There was one installation guide with all cartoons but no text! No Quick setup guide either. The quick reference card has color cartoons, no text. But there is multi page legal jargon text Safety Guide!
What you need to read - like how to install and use the machine -is not there: and what you don't read - legal safety jargon & how not to use the machine - has multiple pages. HOW LOONY?
But if you have worked with these kind of machines, you know where the power cord goes and where the network cable goes etc. So you can figure that part out. The network installation was easy on the Windows XP but not on Mac. I could not get it to install on Mac. It boggles my mind that they would build a machine with excellent print engine and yet have such poor quality in everything else like documentation, software, finish, construction and support etc.
Integrating all the multiple functions and features into a unified software is probably very hard and i have used HP, Dell, Brother, Samsung and Canon multifunction machines. The only company that has nailed the software part is Canon. They have beautifully integrated faxing, scanning, printing, and copying in Canon Pixma MX310 Office All-in-One Inkjet Printer (2184B002). Unfortunately, Canon does not make commercial grade color laser printers.
Printing, faxing and copying work fast on this Minolta Magicolor 4695F but I was not able to get the scanner part to work. Finally Minolta sent a service technician to my office and he said the front access panel could not be closed because of twisted latch, smudges on the side were due to a torn belt and the background noise in print was due to heat problems. He blamed all the defects on reseller Adorama or shipper UPS and said one of them had dropped the printer somewhere and ruined it. Adorama said that Minolta printers have very high defect rate and almost 20% were returned! Of course, I was one of those 20% and returned the machine to Adorama.
Would you really want to buy a multifunction machine with 20% defect rate?

HP Photosmart 3310 All-in-One Printer, Copier, Scanner, Fax

I purchased this because my PSC2210V was showing its age. I am not dissappointed. I have spent the last 2 weeks putting it through its paces with my iMac G5 (Note to Mac users: It works with Airport!!!). The print quality was at least equal to that of a 1 hour photo place. On normal documents it is up to twice as fast as my PSC2210 was. Scan speed was a lot faster (yes, the scan data comes via the 802.11g port!) than the PSC2210 and quality was quite good. Even the flash memory cards transfer though the wireless connection. my only negative so far is that it lacks a dedicated envelope slot (you have to remove the paper and feed envelopes through the main paper tray) but that is a minor nit. The guy who gave this 1 star because of reginal coding of the cartridges must be a seller of refilled cartridges becuase this is not a portable -- you're not going to take with you on a trip. It would only be an issue if you moved from the US to england. Igonre his review and take it from me, you will love this printer.

There is no Tech Support for the 5800/5820 scanners. They are the most worthless pieces of junk ever to be assembled. I would not buy this crap if it was being sold for a dollar. The Windows XP drivers are corrupt and Tech support does not answer their phones. When they actually do answer the phone they put you on hold for hours. Most likely because they have an unending stream of furious customers.

Photosmart Premium C310a Wireless All-in-One Inkjet Printer, Copy/Print/Scan Review

Photosmart Premium C310a Wireless All-in-One Inkjet Printer, Copy/Print/Scan
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this printer as a "free" replacement from HP when my Photosmart Plus B209 printer broke just near the end of its 1 year warranty.
Setting up the printer was trouble-free, and this was all in wireless mode on the printer itself; didn't connect the printer physically via USB. After going through the touch-screen setup on the HP, it was able to connect to my "closed" (meaning hidden) wireless network, unlike my previous Plus printer, which could NOT connect to closed wireless networks. After setup, I went to my Mac and it immediately discovered the printer on the network. So far so good.
I was also pleasantly surprised that the ink cartridges included were "full" versions and not limited-capacity "setup/trial" versions. I still have my mostly unused XL cartridges I took out of my dead Plus printer but after printing what seems like 40-50 full color (50% coverage) glossy label sheets, I'm still at 25-30% remaining on the bundled cartridges.
Now, here's where I'm disappointed: There is significant banding with Cyan and Yellow inks on at least glossy label letter stock; no problems with Black and Magenta. I couldn't detect them on 4x6 photo glossy stock with the naked eye (maybe if I used an eye loupe perhaps). This is, after all, a printer, so for that primary purpose it must succeed. Even though the scanning capabilities work satisfactorily, setup was a breeze, wireless functionality exceeding expectations, the banding issues with printing really make this printer unsatisfactory. I didn't have this problem with my Plus printer.
I tried the limited Alignment utility and cleaning print heads, but it didn't improve the issue. I haven't yet switched cartridges to see if that helps.
Perhaps I should go lower with 2 stars, but since I didn't notice any banding on 4x6 glossy photo stock, perhaps for that purpose this printer will do. And it's wireless capabilities and included duplexer are great features.
Still, even though I got this "free" from HP, so to speak, once I exhaust all my supplies of ink cartridges I probably will buy a Canon Pixma MX printer since they have overwhelmingly positive user reviews and have automatic sheet feeders for scanning plus duplexing, all for the same street price as this printer.
That pretty much speaks to itself on my opinion of this printer.

Purchased this Bluetooth adapter because the one included with my Microsoft Wireless Notebook Presenter Mouse 8000 is rather large. "Setup" and installation of the BlueSoleil software was painless and the adapter seems to be working great with the exception of lag that sometimes occurs with my mouse movements. The mouse did not do this with the Microsoft adapter so I believe it is either the adapter or BlueSoleil software that is causing this. Still a great device and I held one star due to the occasional lag.

HP Officejet Pro L7580 Color All-in-One Printer/Fax/Scanner/Copier (C8187A#ABA) Review

HP Officejet Pro L7580 Color All-in-One Printer/Fax/Scanner/Copier (C8187A#ABA)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Recently upgraded to MS Vista and almost at the same time, ran out of ink on my two HP printers, one for pictures and an older All in One. The L7580 had just been released and I was particularly interested in its ability to print using less ink at a resultant cost savings over my two existing printers. When I got it and printed out the test page, I jumped because of the speed at which the page kicked out. I had to use this with a temporary HP print driver on my Vista machine, but the full Vista driver is now available. Installed the new driver (all 360 Mbytes) without any problems. I am happy with all its features. Have not had any problems with this since I took it out of the package. The front display shows the status of your ink cartridges which is helpful. Also, the ink cartridges now all use the same number on the package so you can easily find replacement cartridges without having to remember multiple numbers. Picture and scanner quality is excellent for my standards and needs. It comes with a slot to insert memory cards, but since I use Photoshop to prepare my pictures, I have never used this feature on this system. If this is important, then the larger display of the next model up would be desirable. Four stars means I am very happy with this printer. I would consider five stars if I was more of an aficianado of the various printers out there and could speak more knowledgeably about other models.

Canon i9100 Photo Printer Review

Canon i9100 Photo Printer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I picked up this printer to print 11x17 and the occasional 13x19 photo. I've owned a Canon back in 1997, but have been using Epson printers since. Now I'm switching back to Canon for good. This printer is flat out amazing. The print quality is fantastic, as is the design and quality feel of the actual product.
The materials and colors are nice, and not cheap and loud like Epson printers. My other Epson is a photo 820 which was only [$$] but a fortune for ink, and Epson never did finish the drivers for Mac OSX. It was advertised that it could do borderless printing, but it would only do it in OS9 which nobody uses anymore. The Canon prints borderless 13x19 prints in OSX and they're brilliant. Epson's are nice printers, and I think they had the edge for a few years but Canon has clearly caught up. I'm surprised how fast and quiet this printer is, but I guess that's what you get for [$$]. It's worth it though.
I am a graphic designer with a meticulous eye for detail -- trust me, this is a good product.

Note: The Canon i9100 is no longer being manufactured. You may want to consider purchasing the newer Canon i9900 photo printer instead.
The ultimate edge-to-edge borderless photo printer--from 4-by-6 snapshots to breathtaking 13-by-19-inch posters--the i9100 makes them big, fast, and beautiful. Designed to bring professional quality photo printing to the home, the i9100 from Canon is a lightweight printer that delivers high-quality prints and comes with a reasonable price tag. Able to handle a wide variety of media, including plain paper, T-shirt transfers, envelopes, transparencies, and Canon specialty papers, this versatile printer also supports paper sizes up to 13 by 19 inches.
The 4,800 x 1,200 dpi (black and color) maximum resolution is achieved with Canons advanced MicroFine Droplet technology, which utilizes 3,072 print nozzles. Kodak IT8 35mm Transparency Target for Calibrating Scanners and Other Digital Color Devices. Review

Kodak IT8 35mm Transparency Target for Calibrating Scanners and Other Digital Color Devices.

Slide was askew in holder, but usable. Had to position on scanner to straighten it out a bunch of times to get it to scan squarely. The data file is a downloadable file from Kodak, and the file needed is shown on the target, as well as the web like to get the file in the documentation that comes with the target. It arrived in an envelope. No problems. My system now color profiled from scanner to printer and monitor with a Spider from datacolor. This target is for film, but can be used to profile the scanner as well. Q60 Target is for Ektachrome, and I must say now my scanned stuff looks a lot like it... scary but very good.

right out of the box this printer made great prints for pennies on the dollar, we picked this up because we're using a large format inkjet for proofs and it was eating us alive on print costs, for the price of the one set of large-format Epson ink cartridges we got this printer with toner included and have been very happy with the results, with almost no setup is very color accurate for a four color process printer, with almost no installation it went right onto the PCs and Macs and we haven't had a single problem with it. the prints are cheap enough that we can just give them away as proofs and not be concerned with the cost, and the media it prints on his very cost efficient in the printer itself is very reliable.

Epson Stylus Pro 3800 / 3880 Printer Custom Dust Cover Review

Epson Stylus Pro 3800 / 3880 Printer Custom Dust Cover
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My compliments to Digital Deck Covers (DDC). Not only is the cover first rate but it's what they did for me that impressed me the most. I just bought a Canon MX870 Canon PIXMA MX870 Wireless Office All-in-One Printer (4206B002) (great printer BTW). If you take a look at the picture you will see that there is a door in the front that automatically opens when you send it something to print. I wrote DDC and told them that I would most likely cut the cover to make room for the door as it opens without having to take the cover off every time (okay so I'm lazy, plus the printer is wireless, so this way I can print from another room and not worry about the dust cover). DDC wrote back saying that they could do this for me if I gave them an idea as to how to do it. I described as best I could how I wanted it. I included a link to Amazon showing the printer. Two days after I placed my order they shipped it. I got it yesterday and couldn't be happier. They not only got the cut out spot on, they took the time to stitch around it so it wouldn't rip. I only wish I could include pictures in this review so you could see the detail and quality of their work. They can do covers for about anything. Here is a link to their website [..]
I highly recommend them to anyone!

Bounty Hunter LONESTAR Lone Star Metal Detector Review

Bounty Hunter LONESTAR Lone Star Metal Detector
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Looked around for about a month before I went with the Lone Star unit. To me it is the best for a beginner like me. Easy to set up, very clear instructions, easy to get in the field right away. It is made in Texas and that was another reason I leaned toward it.
Today was my first time out with it and I had a blast. Only scanned about an hour in the morning and then another 4 in the late afternoon. Found about a dollars worth of misc. coins, none were terribly old, but still fun. Found a bunch of pull tabs....yuk, but kept after it. Right as the sun was going down I hit on another low tone.......and it was a gold ring! Yep, not kidding and no, I don't work for any company sponsor or anything. Just got lucky. I was 5 minutes from heading home with loose change and foil that fell around the benches and picnic area. I didn't tune out the pull tabs because I read online that a lot of gold hits in the same category (notch) as the pull tabs. So, I just dug them all (about 10) before hitting paydirt!
Overall this unit does very good on silver and nickel and does a good job discriminating between the various metals. The only feature I wish it had is perhaps a depth indicator. But most everything I found today, including the ring, was only 3 inches or less deep so not a deal breaker for sure. As I use the unit and practice a bit more (especially with some of the trash I have found) I am sure I will able to increase my "Cash" to "Trash" find ratio.
I can't say if this one is better than the others, but for the money I think this is a very good detector and I am looking forward to many more adventures with it!
